Description
No. 73 High Street is a house in a row, built in the early to mid 19th century. It features Flemish bond brickwork, a slate roof, and brick stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan with a rear wing and a side entrance, and it slightly overhangs Well Alley to the right. The house is two storeys tall with a basement and has two windows. The windows are 12-pane sashes set in brick voussoirs with stone cills. On the ground floor, there is one centrally located sash window above a grilled basement opening. To the far left, there is a six-panel fielded door framed by fluted pilasters and topped with a moulded cornice, which includes a deep transom light with margin panes and an additional panel above the door. To the far right, there is an arched opening leading to the alley, with part of the throughway constructed in a brick tunnel vault. The parapet has been raised in later brick with a concrete coping, and there is a brick stack at the rear, which has also been raised later. The rear of the house includes a 16-pane sash window and a wing with a hipped roof encased by parapetted walls. The interior has not been inspected.
