Description

No. 1 Stephens Alley is a detached cottage dating from the 17th century. It features a box-framed structure with brick nogging and a tiled roof. The cottage has a one-unit central-entry plan and is a small two-storey building with a gabled roof. It includes a three-light casement window above a two-light window and a plank door facing the alley. The west gable is heavily overgrown, and the property is currently empty and abandoned. The interior has not been inspected. This type of property was once common in Tewkesbury's alleys, contributing to the densely populated areas described in John Moore's 'Portrait of Elmbury' (1949), but such cottages are now becoming increasingly rare.
