Description
No. 72 High Street is a house in a row that dates from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick with a stucco front, featuring a slate roof and brick stacks. The building has a parapeted front block with a long rear wing set at an angle, also parapeted, leading to a hipped roof. It stands three storeys tall with a basement and has two windows. The windows are 12-pane sashes set in flat architraves, with the ground floor lacking bars and featuring stone cills. There is a shallow opening to the basement on the left side. The far right side of the front features a six-panel fielded door beneath a deep transom light with margin panes and quadrant corners. The ground floor has a small plinth with rustication, two plain string courses, a moulded cornice, and a blocking with a raised central panel. The south return, which is visible above the adjoining roof, includes a margin-pane sash window at the second floor. The long rendered rear wing has a hipped roof behind the parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
