Description
No. 74 High Street is a house that is part of a row, dating from the 18th century or earlier, with early 19th-century sash windows. It features Flemish bond brickwork and a tiled roof with brick stacks. The building has a central-entry parallel plan and a parapeted front that is small and vertical, indicating that some of the original fabric may be older. There are remnants of timber framing at the back left. The house has two storeys and is two-windowed. The first floor has 16-pane sashes, while the ground floor has a 12-pane window and a 20th-century light, all set beneath wide V-joint lintels. The three larger windows were previously approximately 330mm wider on each side of the opening, now appearing with straight joints. To the right of the entrance is a six-panel fielded door topped by a timber fanlight with plate tracery, all framed by a pilaster surround and a moulded cornice. The building also has a painted stone cornice, with blocking in later brickwork, and tall brick stacks on both the right and left sides. The interior has not been inspected.
