Description

A pair of houses on the High Street in Tewkesbury, dating back to the 16th century, with significant reconstruction of the front in the 20th century. The houses are timber-framed with plaster panels, brickwork, and tile roofs. They are built in a jettied side-entry parallel-plan street range, which covers Summers Court to the right, and include a deep cross-gabled rear wing with steep roofs. There is a central stack to the rear eaves. The houses are two storeys and have an attic, with a 1+1-windowed facade. Dormers with 2-light small-pane casements are above a 2-light window on the first floor, and multi-pane bowed oriels have been added at ground floor level, all of which are 20th-century replacements. A part-glazed 20th-century door is situated to the left or right of the bowed windows. The entrance to Summers Court retains remains of a 4-centred doorway head with a jetty bracket to the left; a similar bracket is built-in at the left-hand end. To the left of the throughway, part of the wall is in light framing with concrete blockwork, while to the right, heavy framing likely forms part of the adjoining property at No. 77. A large square brick stack with a dentilled capping is at the rear. The long wing is in two storeys and cross-gabled; the end gable is rendered, while the gable facing south has horizontal boarding, possibly covering timber framing. The steep roof pitches suggest an early date. The interior has not been inspected.
