Description

The Thomas Cother monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Lawrence, approximately 4 metres south of the south porch. It commemorates Thomas Cother of Wootton, who died in 1781, along with other members of the Cother family. The monument is made of sandstone and limestone and features a stepped square plinth. It has a square plan with large "S" scroll brackets at the corners, which are adorned with the heads of winged cherubs. The sides of the monument have sunken panels with decorated margins, three of which contain inscriptions. Above these panels is a fluted frieze, topped with a moulded pyramidal capping that includes foliate decoration.
