Description
The Joseph Drinkwater monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Lawrence, approximately 3 metres south of the nave. It is likely dedicated to Joseph and Hannah Drinkwater and their children, dating from the mid-18th century. The tomb is made of sandstone and sits on a brick base, featuring moulded stone capping. It has a rectangular shape with segmental ends and displays eroded fielded inscription plaques on the north and south sides, as well as at the east end. At the west end, there is an urn in front of crossed palm leaves, adorned with cable moulding and egg and dart moulding above, along with a 4-petal flower decoration at the bottom. Similar mouldings are present at the east end. The tomb is topped with moulded pyramidal capping that includes a 4-leafed flower moulding. It was previously enclosed by cast iron railings.
