Description
The Samuel Ollive monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Lawrence, approximately 6 metres south-west of the tower. It commemorates Samuel Ollive, who died in 1768, and his wife Mary, who died in 1762. The tomb is made of limestone and features paired raised inscription plaques on either side. The north side has inscriptions in incised lettering painted black, with rosettes in the upper corners of each panel. To the left is an hourglass and to the right is bell-flower decoration. The south side has partially legible inscriptions surrounded by carved foliate decoration. The ends of the tomb are lyre-shaped, and there is a sunken panel at the east end that displays the face of a winged cherub at the top, with bulging "S" scrolls on either side. The west end has an unused circular inscription plaque flanked by foliate "S" scrolls. The tomb is topped with a dome and has thick capping with a moulded margin. It was formerly enclosed by a railing.
