Description
This is a late 18th-century house in a row, originally built as an inn. The front facade was constructed later, concealing an earlier timber-framed building. The house is three storeys high and has three windows across the front. At the second floor level are two blind lunettes, decorated with alternating V-joint voussoirs. A single four-pane sash window is positioned tightly against the eaves, featuring a faint remaining lintel and breaking through a decorative painted brick string course. The first floor has three four-pane sash windows, and the ground floor features two tripartite sash windows, all set beneath splayed lintels. A broad carriage entrance to the left, leading to number 38B, has plank doors with a passage door, set within a flat segmental brick arch with a keystone. To the right of the carriage entrance is a 20th-century door with a plain transom light, accessed by two steps. A central ridge stack sits between the first and second bays. Some timber framing is visible in the left gable wall. The interior has not been inspected.
