Description
33 and 33A Barton Street are a pair of houses dating from the early to mid 17th century. They feature a small square panel timber-frame construction with plastered panels and an underbuild, topped with a tile roof and brick stacks. The houses have a side-entry right angle plan and are gabled to the street. They are double-jettied with twin gables facing the street, and there is a throughway underneath, leading to a 20th-century gabled wing at the back.
The buildings are two storeys high with an attic and have a one-over-one window arrangement. All windows are 4-pane sashes set within moulded architraves. To the left, there is a low opening with an early plank door for No.33A, and between the ground-floor windows, there is a 6-panel door for No.33, which is topped by a shallow transom light and accessed by one step. A moulded cornice runs beneath the gables, which may have originally featured small central casements. In the throughway, there is an early plank door leading to No.33A, along with remnants of timber-framing in the wall. At the back, there are two brick stacks and a gabled dormer. The interior has not been inspected.
