Description
No. 32 Barton Street is a house in a row that includes a restaurant, dating from the 16th century or early 17th century. It features a timber-frame construction with a rendered exterior and a tiled roof. The building has a side-entry right-angle plan, with a gable facing the street. The broad-gabled flat front extends to the corresponding rear gable, which covers Hayes Court to the left. It is two storeys tall, with an attic and basement, and has two windows.
In the gable, there is a two-light small-paned casement window, while the first floor has two replacement casement windows. The ground floor features a 20th-century shop front with a central door on one step, above a small plinth with two blocked basement openings. To the left of the shop front is the entry to Hayes Court, with a wall to the right that has framing and 20th-century brick nogging, and the left side displays heavy braced framing. Approximately 4 meters back from the street front, a broad chamfered beam rests on the party wall. The back gable has 20th-century windows, some square panel framing, and remnants of one heavy corner post, while a long rear wing shows square-panel braced framing. The interior has not been inspected.
