Description

54 Barton Street is a small house with a shop, dating from the 18th century with a front altered in the early 19th century. It is situated at the end of a row. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brickwork, with some rendering, and has a tile roof and a brick stack. It was likely built alongside No. 53, with shared ownership extending over the neighbouring property. The front elevation features a parapet and is two storeys and an attic, with a single window. A two-light raking dormer is positioned above a 16-pane sash window with brick voussoirs, a central fluted key, and a cornice. A fine early 19th-century shop front is present at ground floor level, featuring 16-pane bowed windows on either side of a central door, which is now covered by a modern transom light. The left-hand stack is shared with No. 53. The right return is rendered, with a door and two small 20th-century windows. A lean-to is attached. The interior has not been inspected.
