Description
Lower Moorcroft Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 18th century, with extensions added in the first half of the 19th century. It features Flemish-bond brickwork and a tiled roof, presenting an 'L' shaped plan with each wing comprising two bays; one wing is two storeys high while the other is two and a half storeys. The entrance is set back in the angle of the building and includes a four-panel door with an upper fielded section and a lower flush section, topped by a flat porch head with a lead cover. There is a three-light mullion and transom window with an iron opening light and a cambered brick arch. Above this, there are two three-light mullion and transom windows with leaded lights, lacking lintels, and featuring dentil eaves. A chimney is located on the ridge to the right of the centre.
The left wing has a vertical joint and a two-light casement window on the right side without a lintel, along with a vertical joint and a three-light casement window with a cambered brick arch. The first floor mirrors the design below, with dentil eaves and a chimney situated on the ridge between the windows. At the front of the left end, there is a brick mounting block with three stone steps leading up to a stone top.
Inside, the farmhouse features a wide fireplace with a timber surround, a beaded edge, and a moulded mantel-shelf, along with a gun rack above. There is also a wide chamfered ceiling beam at the right end of the left wing and a two-panel door with fielded panels.
