Description
This barn, dating from the 17th century, is located approximately 40 metres east of Dean Farmhouse in Stoke Orchard. It features square-panelled timber framing that was originally filled with wattle and daub, but is now covered with weatherboarding. There is a small area of brick infill, and the gable end facing the lane has been rebuilt using 20th-century breeze blocks below head height. The roof is made of corrugated iron, replacing the original thatch. The barn has a rectangular plan and includes a smaller timber-framed extension of a similar age at the gable end away from the road. A lean-to against the west wall is not of special interest. The barn once had a double-width doorway on the west side, but only a smaller doorway remains on the opposite wall. There is a stable door towards the left gable end of the west side and a small window panel with uprights that are remnants of the former wattle and daub infill towards the north end of the east side. Inside, the barn consists of three bays, with all original roof trusses featuring collar and braced tie beams and inclined queen post trusses. The interior also includes a flag threshing floor.
