Description
Witcombe Court is a large house, now divided into four separate dwellings, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is situated in Little Witcombe. The front of the house is pebbledashed, while the rear is constructed of painted brick, and the roof is slate. The building has a rectangular plan with a central three-story section, including a cellar, flanked by two-story wings. The symmetrical front elevation features a pattern of one window, three windows, and then one window. The ground floor windows are twenty-pane sashes; those above are sixteen-pane sashes, with a twelve-pane sash above the entrance porch. The second floor has twelve-pane sashes with horns. The wings feature tripartite sashes on the ground floor, one of which is a 20th-century replacement; the first floor of the wings has twelve-pane sashes, one of which is also a 20th-century replacement. A parapet with a moulded cornice runs along the top. The central entrance has a fielded six-panel door with a fanlight and is sheltered by a porch with fluted columns and laurel wreath decorations at each end, with a matching porch to the rear. A round-headed stairlight with marginal glazing bars is also at the rear. Access to number 4 is provided via a flat-roofed porch, set within what appears to be a reused 18th-century architrave with decorative ears. The roofs are hipped, with a moulded cornice at the front.
