Description
32, 33, and 34 East Street is a terrace of three houses built in the late 18th century. The houses are constructed of English garden wall bond brickwork with a tiled roof and brick stacks. They are two storeys high with an attic under a mansard roof and feature a one-windowed design for each house. The layout is double-depth.
The raking dormers have 6-pane casements, except for No. 34, which has a 2-light casement. Below, there are square 8+4-pane horizontal sliding sashes in broad boxes that sit tight to the eaves, although No. 34 has a replacement window. On the ground floor, each house has 3-light casements with segmental heads set on brick cills. The doors are early plank doors with segmental heads and small plank hoods supported by brackets. To the far right, there is a throughway with a segmental head.
The eaves feature a brick dentil course, and there is a large square central stack with smaller stacks at the half-hipped ends. The backs of the houses have been altered in the 20th century. This terrace is noted as one of the better examples of artisan housing in the street and is an early surviving example of its type.
