Description
42 and 43 Barton Street is a house in a row with a shop underneath, dating from the early 19th century. It features Flemish bond brickwork and has a roof behind parapets at both the front and back, which is not visible but is presumed to be slate. The building has three storeys and a basement, with two windows on the front. The second floor has replacement aluminium lights, while the first floor has a 20-pane sash window, all set beneath wide-splayed V-joint lintels and stone cills. The ground floor includes a full-width late 19th-century plate-glass shop front with wide pilasters and a moulded fascia, and a recessed central 20th-century door that is accessed by two steps. To the left, there is a 20th-century glazed door set under a brick soldier arch, within an area of rebuilt brickwork. At the back, there are 12-pane sash windows on the second floor and 16-pane sash windows on the first and ground floors, with one of the first-floor windows on the right being a replacement. The interior has not been inspected.
