Description
This is a pair of houses located at the end of a short row in Hailes Street, Winchcombe. The core of the buildings dates back to the 16th century, but the frontages were largely reconstructed in the 19th century. The construction is of coursed limestone rubble, with a concrete stone slate roof. Some heavy timber framing remains and is visible in the upper part of the gable facing the street on the right-hand side, suggesting the original building was timber-framed. The house has a steep pitched roof with a cross wing to which a front was later added. Each dwelling has a single window. Number 55 features a small, canted bay window within the gable, which rests on the overhanging roofline, and a sash window with glazing bars in a moulded architrave. To the right of the window is a plank and batten door in a chamfered surround. Number 57 has a small, 2-light 19th-century casement dormer window above a sash window with glazing bars, and a 20th-century 'stable' style door on the right-hand side. Number 57 is included in the listing due to its integral part in the original construction.
