Description
Parr’s Farmhouse is a dwelling of the 16th century with substantial alterations in the late 19th century. It stands parallel to the road, and exhibits a complex history of construction and adaptation. The front of the building is of hard red brick, while the rear gables feature timber framing and limestone. The roofs are stone slate, with coped gables. The farmhouse comprises a main block, a forward-projecting 19th-century wing to the left, and two gabled extensions at the rear which represent the original farmhouse layout. The street frontage is two storeys and an attic, with a two-window arrangement. This includes 2- or 3-light casement windows beneath flat stone lintels, plus 2-light gabled dormers. The left-hand gable at the rear has three small lights within timber framing above a large, modern bow window. The right-hand gable has a 2-light casement window set within the gable, situated above a 20th-century pair of French doors. A further large, flat-roofed extension is situated to the right. The main entrance is now located through the extension at the left-hand end.
Inside, a large open bressummer fire is present in the large external stack. A 19th-century staircase is within the house, and significant original timber framing remains within the walls and between rooms, particularly at roof level. Roof timbers are not visible.
