Description

Church House is a mid-18th century dwelling located in Slimbridge. It is constructed of brick on a slag block plinth at the front, with a stone slate roof on the front slope and a deep back wing, while the back slope and a smaller wing to the right are covered with tiles. The building is L-shaped, featuring stacks at three gables, with a lower wing added later at the north end. Originally a detached dwelling, it is now adjacent to a 20th-century Village Hall, which is not included in the listing.

The house has two storeys and an attic, with a five-windowed facade that includes new casements beneath segmental brick heads. The central entrance features a six-panel door with a flat wooden hood supported by consoles. On the left side, there is a small hipped dormer, and the front roof slope has three late 20th-century laylights. The original heavy roof structure remains intact, along with a straight 19th-century staircase. It is noted that the building was said to have served as a workhouse in 1781 and was partially used as a school for a time. Previously, there were five dormers on the main front.
