Description
Whitehall Farmhouse is a dwelling that was formerly a farmhouse, possibly dating back to the 16th century, with the upper floor likely rebuilt in the 19th century. The building features painted squared stone or brick and has a concrete tile roof, although the 19th-century parallel range has a pantile roof.
The north front of the farmhouse is two storeys high and has a first floor with two windows, which are fitted with 2-light casements under wooden lintels. On the ground floor, there is one small 2-light casement and one 4-light casement, both also with wooden lintels. At the left end, there is a studded plank door, possibly from the 17th century, which is set under a stone four-centred chamfered head.
The interior has been significantly altered, but it retains stone cheeks from the 17th century or earlier around the main fire opening at the west end of the ground floor. There are heavy beams with pyramid stops to the chamfers in the main room on the ground floor. The staircase was likely originally located in the north-east corner, next to the main door. Some 18th-century shutters have been stripped. The property was formerly known as The Priory.
