Description
The Humphrey Wind memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 12 meters east of the south porch at the Church of St John the Evangelist. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of limestone. The memorial features an impressive baroque design, characterized by a cyma and roll top, a cavetto base, quarter baluster details, and ornate cartouche ends. It has raised moulded rectangular inscription panels and is set on a broad stylobate. The inscription, which is difficult to read, appears to refer to Humphrey Wind and includes the year 177-. However, the design of the memorial suggests it may be older than this date indicates. At the time of the survey, the memorial was in a state of collapse.
