Description

Wellington House is a house dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a plinth, a plain string course above the ground floor, a cornice, and blocking to the parapet. The roof is tiled with coped verges, and there are gable stacks. The house is three storeys high and has three windows across the front. The windows are 12-pane sash windows, although there are blind openings centrally at the first and second floors. A six-panel fielded door is located centrally, sheltered by a doorcase with Doric pilasters and a flat entablature above a plain transome light. A single 12-pane sash window is on the left return. Decorative ironwork balconies are present on two first-floor windows.

To the right of the house is a boundary wall constructed of squared limestone blocks with plain coping, standing approximately 3 metres high. There is a plain wooden door set within a cambered stone lintel, and within a recess that was formerly an opening, a pair of garage doors. The boundary wall extends approximately 14 metres to the south side of Edge Road. A similar wall, but about 2 metres high, runs to the left of the house above Jasmine Cottage. Both walls contribute significantly to the appearance of the street.
