Description

Rough Hill Cottage is a dwelling, likely dating from the 16th century. It is constructed of squared marlstone rubble with a double Roman file roof tile stack to the left gable. The cottage is one storey high with an attic, featuring a three-light casement window to the left, and a two-light mullioned casement window low to the right. A small dormer window is centrally placed, and there is a plank door to the left. Further small features include a light to the staircase within the left gable, and a small, two-light mullioned casement window to the rear of the staircase.

The interior exhibits well-preserved features, including a large open fire with a bressumer and bread oven, flanked by a stone spiral staircase, all situated at the left-hand end of the cottage.

This small cottage represents an important survival and may have a connection to the Church of St Cyr, approximately 130 metres to the north.
