Description

This drinking fountain, dated 1887, is made of squared and coursed marlstone with a stone slate capping. It features an arched recess beneath a coped gable, with the fountain recess set back square from the sides and small radius quadrant corners leading to a flat back. A slightly pointed arch springs from heavy two-stage corbels. A small water spout discharges over a plain Pennant stone slab. There is a commemorative tablet made of Shelly 'marble' that reads: 'APRIL 26 1887. TO THE DEAR AND HONOURED MEMORY OF GEORGE PHIPPS PREVOST' followed by a five-line doggerel. George Phipps Prevost served as the 'perpetual curate' in the parish. The total height of the fountain is approximately 3 meters and its width is about 2.25 meters.
