Description
Ryecottage and Kimberley Cottage with forecourt railings are a pair of houses situated in a row, dating from the mid-to-late 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 20th centuries. They are constructed of random rubble limestone, with ashlar and concrete block chimneys and a concrete tile roof. The houses are two storeys high, with a higher rear wing.
The front elevation incorporates a mixed pattern of windows. Ryecottage features two-light, chamfered mullioned casements with hoodmoulds on both floors; it also has a doorway with a rendered lintel and a 20th-century door. Kimberley Cottage has a six-panel door, and primarily casement windows, with 20th-century replacements, except for a single upper-floor three-light, recessed, chamfered casement with a hoodmould. Iron spear-topped railings line the forecourt of Kimberley Cottage, with decorative iron finials to the principal posts. A further gateway suggests that the row originally comprised three properties. A chimney is located on the south gable end and features a chamfered cap. The rear of the building includes a wing with mullioned windows. The interior has not been inspected. These houses are included on the list for their group value.
