Description
South End Cottage is a house located at the end of a row in Bisley Village, dating from the late 17th century with a mid-19th century addition. It is constructed of coursed and random rubble limestone, with some painted sections on the corner block, and features ashlar and artificial stone chimneys topped with a concrete tile roof. The building is two storeys tall with an attic and a cellar, forming an L-shape at the corner of George Street and High Street.
On the east end, there is a gable end that includes a single chamfered cellar and two-light attic casements, along with a 20th-century ground floor casement. The gable-mounted chimney has a chamfered cap. The south side showcases two windows with two-light chamfered mullioned fenestration, complete with hoodmoulds, although some alterations have been made, including the addition of two gabled roof dormers. The north side features a corner block with single-window casement fenestration on each face, all having stone lintels, and the angled corner has a doorway that has been modified by the insertion of a 20th-century fixed-light. The roof is hipped at the corner and includes a single north-facing gabled dormer. The interior has not been inspected. The cottage holds an important position at the intersection of two roads in the center of the village.
