Description

Nos. 1 and 2 George Street are a pair of late 18th-century houses in a row, located on the north side of George Street in Bisley Village. The houses are constructed of coursed rubble limestone, with ashlar chimney detailing and a stone slate roof. They are two storeys high with an attic, and feature a parallel rear range to the rear of No. 1. The front elevation has a two-window arrangement to each house. The left-hand house has mainly 20th-century replacement leaded casement windows with timber lintels, while the right-hand house retains more original casement windows, also with timber lintels. Each house has a central doorway with a stone lintel; the left-hand doorway has a four-panel door, and the right-hand doorway has been partly infilled and contains a timber casement. A single central, eaves-mounted, gabled roof dormer is present on each house and both feature leaded casement windows. A fire insurance plate is affixed to No. 1. The west end of each house has a ridge-mounted chimney with a moulded cap. The interior of the houses has not been inspected. The buildings are included for their group value.
