Description
The Baptist Chapel, built in 1873 by J. Tait of Leicester, is a notable example of Romanesque architecture. It is constructed from rock-faced coursed rubble limestone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof. The chapel is a double-height rectangular structure, with a two-storey ancillary block at the north end.
The south front showcases a gable end that breaks forward, flanked by shallow buttresses topped with cross gables that rise above a moulded parapet. This façade includes three large round-arched windows with jamb shafts and waterleaf capitals, along with a central round-arched doorway that has jamb shafts, a hood mould, plank doors, and a bold trefoil head. Above the doorway, there is a central cusped circular window in the gable, and narrow round-arched windows on either side. The sides of the chapel feature five round-arched recesses, each with a circular window at the top. Four of these bays contain 2-light casements below, with a divided pane above the window. The interior has not been inspected.
