Description
Valley Cottage is a detached house dating from around 1700, with a wing added in the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed from coursed and random rubble limestone, with brick chimneys that have been rebuilt. The roof is covered with diagonal asbestos slate, while the wing features artificial stone. The building is two stories tall, with a cellar and attic, and includes a single-storey wing.
The front facade has four upper floor casements with two lights and chamfered mullions, although one light is blocked due to the addition of the projecting wing. On the ground floor, there are two three-light casements with a continuous hood mould that rises over the stone lintel of the central doorway, which features a six-panel door. The eaves are deep and coved, and the roof is sprocketed with two gabled dormers. Gable end chimneys are present, and the east-facing wing has timber casements and a doorway with a plank door. The east end features continuous hood moulds extending from the front, with two single-light windows on both the ground and upper floors. There is a low-level cellar doorway with a timber lintel and plank door, and a rubble outshut at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
