Description

The Frampton-on-Severn war memorial is a structure dating from around 1921, made from local limestone. It takes the form of a cross with chamfered arms, which is set on a moulded collar atop a slightly-tapering octagonal shaft featuring broach stops. The shaft rests on a square-section base with chamfered upper corners, and the entire memorial stands on a three-stepped octagonal platform.

The base is inscribed in an elegant Serif font with the following text: "+ / THE GREAT WAR / August 1914-Nov.1918 / + / These gave their lives / and all that men hold dear. / that we might live in freedom. / +". One of the other faces bears the inscription "1914 + 1918," followed by the names of the Fallen. A third face is inscribed with "+ / WORLD WAR / 1939-1945." The lettering on all faces is highlighted in black paint.
