Description
The Ellis monument is a chest tomb located approximately 1.5 meters south of the Church of St. John, dated 1740. It is made of limestone and features gadrooned balusters at the corners. The ends of the tomb are adorned with a very elaborate cartouche, while the south side includes a swag inscription panel with two cherub's heads above it. Flanking panels are topped with ribbon bows, with the left panel depicting an open book and floral drop, and the right panel showing an hour-glass with a serpent of eternity and cross-bones below. The north side has a plain moulded inscription panel flanked by floral drops. The tomb has a cyma moulded top and base and is inscribed on the south side to Joseph Ellis, who died in 1740.
