Description
No. 5 High Street is a dwelling and shop that dates back to the 17th century. It features rough render on a timber frame and has a double Roman tile roof. The building has double gables facing the street and a cross ridge roof, with an additional gable at the rear and a recent extension. There is a stone stack with two shafts rising above the roof. The structure is three storeys high and has two windows: small casements with glazing bars in the gables and first-floor sashes without bars. The ground floor has a recent shop front set on a stall riser made of large squared masonry. The remains of a large central stack are mostly hidden by shop fittings at the ground floor, and the building has a heavy scantling roof structure. It was formerly known as the Lord Berkeley Inn and is reputed to date from 1670.
