Description
No 1 High Street, formerly known as Cambrian House, is a building that was originally a dwelling and shop, but is now used as offices. It dates from the mid-18th century and features a rough render on a timber frame up to the parapet at the front, with two projecting rubble wings at the rear. The roof is made of stone slate.
The building stands three storeys high and has five windows. The top floor includes four sash windows and a central Venetian window, which has an arched light that is boarded over; all of these windows have glazing bars. The first floor has a similar arrangement but lacks glazing bars. The ground floor is filled with a 19th-century shop front that has slender colonnettes and flat elliptical heads above the plate glass. To the right, there is a six-panel door with planted mouldings and a plain glazed elliptical fanlight above it.
Inside, there is an 18th-century staircase with twisted balusters, some 18th-century panelling, and structural beams, some of which are chamfered and stopped. Across the yard is a 17th-century rubble building with a stone slate roof, supported by some original timbers. This building has two storeys, but its openings are blocked, and it features stone stacks.
