Description
No. 50 Long Street is a dwelling and stationery shop that dates from the late 19th century and includes elements from the 18th century, featuring an early interior and framing. The left side of the building is constructed of painted brick and concrete tiles, while the right side has smooth rendering on a timber frame with clay double Roman tiles. The building has a two-part elevation, which includes a gable with a half hip facing Long Street and a long return facade to Market Street.
The left half is two storeys high with two windows, featuring sashes with glazing bars set in broad surrounds. The right half is three storeys tall with one window in the gable, which is a shallow multi-paned wide unit, and a broad sash with glazing bars and a broad surround on the first floor. There is a 19th-century shop front that includes a diagonal corner entry and a long seven-bay return with pilasters. A basement opening is located on the left side. The return facade also includes a two-storey, two-windowed dwelling unit that incorporates a through-way to the back of the premises. Inside, there is important framing, including some wind bracing to the roof and evidence of a former jetty facing Long Street.
