Description

Mill Cottage is a detached house dating from the mid-17th century, with a later 18th-century addition. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone, with brick chimneys and a stone slate roof. The cottage is two storeys high with an attic. The south side features a gabled section, representing the 17th-century part, which is positioned to the right. This section has a single window on each floor; the ground floor window is a three-light recessed cavetto mullioned casement with a hoodmould that extends to the left, covering the doorway with its plank door. Above this is a two-light recessed cavetto mullioned casement with a hoodmould, and a further two-light recessed cavetto mullioned casement in the attic. Two former large segmental openings are visible on the left side of the later 18th-century addition and are now blocked. The north side has similar fenestration, although the ground floor includes a 20th-century casement with a concrete lintel. The west end shows a gable with two bricked-up upper-floor openings, covered by a continuous timber lintel, and a blocked circular opening in the gable above. The interior of the cottage has not been inspected. Mill Cottage forms part of a group with the north-western part of Frogmarsh Mill located to the south.
