Description
Millbank and the adjoining house, built around 1840, are a row of two houses located on the east side of High Street in South Woodchester. The front is made of ashlar limestone, while the sides are constructed from coursed rubble. The chimneys are rebuilt using ashlar and artificial stone, and the houses have a stone slate roof.
These two-storey buildings also feature an attic and a cellar. The front has a four-window arrangement, all fitted with sash windows; the outer windows have 12 panes, while the two central doorways, which are grouped together, have narrower 8-pane windows above them and 4-panel doors below. There is a flat stone porch hood supported by shaped brackets over the entrance to Millbank. A carved panel is located at the central upper floor level. The gable ends have chimneys, with the northern chimney featuring a moulded cap.
At the northern end, there is a single-storey outbuilding that includes a doorway and a casement window. Simple iron railings are attached to both houses, enclosing a forecourt. The rear of the buildings has a mix of sash and casement windows, and there are two gabled roof dormers in the attic. The interiors have not been inspected. This listing is included for its group value.
