Description
The Hawthorns is a detached house built in the mid-19th century. It features painted brickwork, a dentil cornice, a tiled roof, and brick stacks at the ends. The house has a single range of three storeys at the front, with a catslide roof covering two storeys at the rear, and a central three-storey stair tower. There are small single-storey wings on each side, which are not of special interest.
The front has three windows on the second floor, which are 12-pane sashes arranged as four over eight, and 16-pane sashes on the first floor and the ground floor to the right. All windows have large splayed voussoirs and a keystone. The left side of the ground floor features a later 19th-century canted bay with three plate glass sashes.
At the centre, there is a projecting Ionic porch, which, along with the bay, has a dentil cornice and a blocking course with a raised central motif. The door is made up of six panels and is topped with a decorative radial fanlight.
