Description
The Moseley Monument is a late 18th-century pedestal tomb located approximately 5 meters northeast of the lych gate in the churchyard of St. Mary. It is made of limestone and features an upright square pedestal with concave faces and scroll supporters. Atop the pedestal is a re-carved square urn, which is capped with a cavetto and has a moulded edge along with a decorative frieze. The monument also includes raised shouldered panels and a moulded base, all set diagonally on a square stone platform. Although the inscription is no longer legible, a survey from 1879 records that it commemorates the Reverend John Moseley, who died in 1794 and served as a litigious vicar at the church from 1764 until his death.
