Description
Two chest tombs from the late 17th century are located approximately 10 meters northeast of the lych gate in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary. Both tombs are made of limestone.
The first tomb, positioned near the churchyard wall, features a flat table with a moulded edge and lyre ends, which have worn cartouches. It has a good cartouche panel on the south side, although the north panel was missing at the time of the survey in 1984. The tomb rests on a cavetto base and is not legible.
The second tomb has a flat table with a cyma mould edge and lyre ends in high relief. It includes sunk panels and a sandstone inscription panel on the south side, flanked by female figures. This tomb has a very wide cavetto base and is dedicated to William Webbe, Citizen and Salter of London, dated 1679, although the inscription is barely legible and was recorded in 1879.
