Description
Oldlands Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely has its central core dating back to the 15th century, with an additional wing probably from the late 16th or early 17th century, creating an L-shape. There are later brick additions to the north and west, likely from the 18th and 19th centuries. The exterior is roughcast over rubble stone, with a mainly slate roof, while the wing to the north features a double Roman tile roof. The building has been fitted with rebuilt brick stacks, except for a large stone ridge stack on the left side of the original through passage, which has offsets and a circular flue. The farmhouse is single storey with an attic and has a main L-shaped range that includes two small gables and one large end gable to the west, all with steep pitches. The fenestration is scattered, featuring mainly 2 and 3-light casements. There is a plank door with a 19th-century gabled trellis porch and a large slate-roofed brick lean-to on the north-west corner. Inside, the farmhouse boasts many fine beamed ceilings, including compartmented chamfered beams in several ground floor rooms. The first (attic) floor has a pair of probable raised crucks in the core and possibly also in the earlier extension, which are partially concealed by decorations.
