Description
Church End House and the adjoining stable at the north-west corner are part of the Tanhouse Farm complex in Frampton-on-Severn. This detached house and stables were built in the late 18th century by the Barnard family, who owned a local brickworks. The structure is made of brick on a stone plinth, featuring raised brick quoins and a brick dentil cornice with a stepped two-brick string course below. The roof is tiled, with verges and kneelers that have sections of glazed brick coping, and there are tall brick end stacks.
The house has a single front range that is two storeys high with an attic, along with small single-storey rear wings. It features three windows with renewed wood 2-light mullion and transom designs, which include glazing bars and are topped with splayed rubbed brick voussoirs and a stone keystone. The voussoirs and dentils are made of contrasting red brick. There are two similar flanking central doors, each with six fielded panels and a 20th-century flat moulded wooden hood supported by consoles. The house also has three gabled dormers with renewed 2-light wood mullions.
The stable block to the left is constructed of brick with a pantile roof, featuring similar coped verges and kneelers as the house. It is a small single range. The decorative elevation of Church End House includes two round-arched recesses with redder brick voussoirs, stone keystones, and imposts, along with a similar open arch in the wall that links it to the house. The opposing side has a more functional elevation. The property is included for its group value, but the interior is not accessible.
