Description
Hillman's Cottage is a detached house that dates from the 18th century or earlier, with later alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone and features a stone slate roof. The building has a squat L-shaped plan with an infilled re-entrant that creates a square outline, gabled at the outer ends and hipped at the southeast corner.
The cottage is four storeys high and has two windows on the front facade. The ground floor includes a three-light casement window and a 20th-century door. The first floor has two three-light casements, while the second floor features two two-light casements. All casements have recessed chamfered mullions with stopped hoods, except for the right window on the second floor, which lacks a hood. There are also two gabled dormers on the roof.
On the left return, there is a two-light casement without a hood, a three-light casement with a hood, a 20th-century door, and a single light window under one hood. This wall is supported by a large raking buttress and an additional diagonal buttress at the corner. The back of the building, which is positioned on a steep slope, has two two-light casements without hoods on the first floor and a 20th-century door located low on the left side. The interior of the cottage has been significantly modified.
