Description
Swineshead Cottage is a house that has been converted into two occupied dwellings. It dates from the mid 17th century but was altered with a raised roofline and rebuilt in the early to mid 18th century. The south front is two storeys high and features a three-room plan. The cottage displays 17th-century masonry and has double chamfered mullioned windows with six lights on each floor, although some mullions are missing. The windows include a seven-light window with a six-light window above it.
The doorway has a semi-circular arched head with a projecting moulded hood, imposts, consoles, and monolithic jambs. Above the door is a sashed window with a plain stone surround and a projecting sill. There is also a five-light window with a four-light window above it. The building features a band and moulded gutter brackets supporting a convex moulded stone gutter. There are two gable stacks and one additional stack.
On the right-hand return wall, there is an arch light with sunken spandrels, along with a three-light flat faced mullioned window and a two-light window above it, as well as a three-light double chamfered mullioned window in the attic. The first floor includes a taking-in door. Attached to the main structure is a single-storey cell that has a six-light chamfered mullioned window.
At the rear of the main range, there is a tall stair window that was originally six lights, similar to that found at Higher Longfield Farm. The rear of the first cell has double chamfered mullioned windows with five lights and a four-light window above. An attic window, added when the roof was raised, has four lights.
