Description

Bramley Cottage and Barnfield Cottages, along with a barn, are a row of three dwellings located on the east side of Dursley Road in Slimbridge. They are possibly from the 17th century and late 18th century. The buildings feature rendered brickwork and a stone slate roof. Branley Cottage, which faces the road, was undergoing alterations at the time of the survey. The other two cottages are each two storeys high, with two windows plus a central blind opening. They have sash windows with glazing bars and late 20th-century doors beneath 19th-century flat hoods supported by consoles.

Behind Barnfield Cottage stands a large 17th-century brick barn with a Flemish gable, which faces west towards Dursley Road. The barn has a side segmental arch over carriage doors, above which is an ogee-headed opening that has been bricked up. It features ball finials on the gables, brick modillion eaves, and some brickwork with ventilating diaper patterns. There is also a hexagonal turret topped with an umbrella roof that is zinc clad. This property is said to be part of the Berkeley Estate and is significant for its well-preserved small-scale cottages and barn, with two of the three cottages remaining relatively unaltered.
