Description
The George is a coaching house that has been converted into an inn, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of brick, featuring brick projecting quoins on the front wall and a modillion brick cornice, topped with a concrete tile roof. The building has a lofty and compact original block with a stack on the right gable, wings on both sides, and a deep 20th-century back projection. It stands three storeys high and has two windows on the front: the second floor has 2-light casements, the first floor has sash windows with glazing bars, and the ground floor features a modern pair of glazed doors on the left, a central sash window with glazing bars, and a canted bay. The walls were likely rendered originally. The George was probably a coaching inn, taking advantage of its location directly on the Gloucester to Bristol road, now known as the A38.
