Description

De Lacy Cottage

A small detached cottage, probably early 17th century in date. It is constructed with square panel timber framing and plastered infill on a stone plinth, and has an interlocking tile roof with a central large brick stack. The building is said originally to have been thatched with a diagonal chimney.

The cottage consists of a single range of two storeys and attic, with a central rear wing. The front elevation features two gabled dormers with 19th-century decorative bargeboards and 2-light casements. Below these are two 3-light casements with 19th-century iron lattice work. A large 19th-century gabled porch is positioned centrally, with an early plank door that probably retains planted elaborate strap hinges. Traces of an earlier window survive above the door to the right. Small 2-light casements are set into the returns of the building.

The interior has not been fully accessible to survey, but is recorded as containing a large Tudor arch fireplace on the ground floor and a plaster painted coat of arms on the first floor.
