Description
The gatepiers and gates to Frampton Court, along with an attached wall, form a formal entrance to the estate in Frampton-on-Severn. Likely built in the mid-18th century, shortly after the house was constructed in 1735, the entrance features large rusticated gatepiers made of ashlar stone, complete with a moulded plinth, cornice, and large urn finials. There are also flanking side pieces of ashlar, which have moulded cornices and smaller finials, although one finial is missing on the left side. Between the gatepiers is a pair of decorative wrought iron gates. The coped ashlar wall extends downwards for about 2 meters on both sides, leading to a smaller square ashlar pier that has a moulded plinth, cornice, and a rusticated round-arched niche on the front. The walls curve forward in two quadrants to a smaller version of the main pier, which features cap finials. The tallest pair of piers in the center stands approximately 5 meters high, while the outer piers are about 2.8 meters tall. The total length across the front, angled towards Perry Way, is approximately 20 meters.
