Description

Clows Bridge is a canal bridge dated 1783, located in Chalford Bottom. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a segmental arch with saw-tooth voussoirs. The keystone on the west side is inscribed with "CLOWS ENGINR 1783," and there is a projecting stone above it. The parapets are ramped up at the center and have dressed stone coping. The Thames and Severn Canal, for which the bridge was built, was authorized in 1783 and opened in 1789, with Josiah Clowes serving as the surveyor and engineer.
