Description

The Corner House is a small detached house dating from the mid to late 18th century, with 19th-century additions. It is constructed from random and coursed rubble limestone, featuring ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has two-storey additions on both the east and west sides.

The front of the house has a gable end that projects forward and includes a single-window arrangement with timber casements, timber lintels, and leaded iron opening casements. To the right, there is an addition with a single 12-pane sash window on each floor. The doorway is located at the angle of the house, featuring a flat stone porch hood supported by a single bracket.

On the west side, the addition has a brick upper floor that is rendered on the front side, with an open ground floor supported by timber beams and a corner post; there is also an outhouse set back beneath this. The main entrance to the house is through a 6-panel door accessed from this side.

At the rear, the house is built against a steep pathway, with one ground floor room situated beneath the path, likely built into a vaulted wool drying recess from earlier terrace walls. There is an additional recess to the east of the house, which has a later front wall with a reset oval window. The Corner House has an important visual impact on the curve of the street.
